A beautiful, colorful, energetic wedding day for a lovely couple at their Olowalu Plantation House Indian Wedding celebration. Their two families joined in their celebration of LOVE. Indian wedding traditions were joyous and colorful! In the baraat, or groom's procession, Vishal arrived to the ceremony on a decorated white horse. Guests dance around him to the beat of a dhol, an Indian drum. After that, the bride and her family greet the groom, and the couple exchanges floral garlands to wear around their necks to symbolize their acceptance of each other and joining of the families.For the ceremony, the priest, groom, bride and bride's parents sit beneath a beautifully decorated mandap, a canopy similar to a Jewish chuppah. The ceremony starts off with the kanya daan, in which the bride's parents give her away. Then the couple joins hands and circles around a small, enclosed fire (the agni) in a ritual called the mangal phera.Then the couple will take the saptapadi, or seven steps in a circle around the mundap, as they vow to support each other and live happily together. Our couple incorporated the Hawaiian lei ceremony into their Indian ceremony in a fun and creative way. The lei exchange brought about smiles and laughter from the families and friends.The reception was very colorful with many flowers and Indian decor. The food included some Hawaiian luau style along with their Indian menu.
